Your essential guide to creating a warm and cosy work from home office

This winter, whilst many are expected to return to the office to escape high energy bills, there will be others who have no choice but to continue working from home. It’s often less expensive to heat one room than it is to heat an entire house, so you’ll be spending a lot of time in your home office. Taking the time now to make it an inviting, cosy and an enjoyable space to work in will help you to remain productive and warm all winter.

Here are some of our favourite products and tips to find the perfect home office desk, cosy chairs and added extras you need this autumn/winter to help keep the cold at bay.

Define your work from home space with wooden sliding doors

If you can, limit the size of your office to a smaller room with a door – it’ll be easier to keep heat in and will prevent it from escaping up stairwells, or into vaulted ceiling spaces. If you can’t, you may be able to partition a part of the room or alcove you are using. This will help to keep heat in, but it may also prove useful in limiting distractions and make you more productive at work.

We have a selection of sliding panels that can easily be fitted to separate an alcove or workspace with the addition of a bar or runner across the top of a wall, and door panels that slide along these. You can choose from glass sliding doors or wooden sliding doors to fit your working from home office space.

Alternatively, if you don’t have an alcove where you can attach doors, reducing the space to create a snug corner area by using shelving units can also help keep heat in a particular space. With our modular storage units you can design the closed back partitioning office storage to fit the space that you have.

Find the perfect home office desk

You’ll need a comfortable home office desk that’s wide enough and deep enough for you to be able to make calls, type and write without losing things off the table. You may prefer a height adjustable sit/stand desk. We have these from 1100mm up to 1800mm to fit your space. Or, if you’re looking for something more compact, we have ingenious slide away tables. These can be fitted to the wall and slid out when required or could be installed beneath a worktop in the kitchen and pulled out when needed.

If you need some help on choosing a desk, try our desk builder to get the right colour, style and size for your home office.

Finding the right seating for your home office

So, you’ve got the space, the desk and now you need a comfortable chair. You’ll find all kinds of different styles and sizes of ergonomic desk chairs or stools to fit your needs on our website, so have a browse and find one that fits your space and needs.

Organise your thoughts

Every office needs a space to organise your thoughts and your stationery. Magnetic mounting wall plates give you ultimate versatility and convenience, as you can use it for messages, workflows or storage, and they look pretty cool too.

Or another way to organise thoughts, messages, brainstorms or workflows, is to make use of a fuss-free, cost-effective whiteboard.

Manage your home office cables

Get those spaghetti cables under control by switching to wireless chargers where you can. Simply swap your cables for a single wireless charging unit that will charge your devices whenever they are in the correct charging field.

Alternatively, you can choose from our selection of tower chargers. These vertical chargers reduce the amount of floor space taken up by charging units and power adapters, as they fit neatly into a corner or along the inside leg of a desk.

Keeping your home office cosy

When it comes to keeping your office warm and cosy, a rug beneath your feet will help insulate the floor underfoot and soften the room. A throw blanket within reach, maybe over the back or arm of a chair, that you can pull over your knees as it gets chilly will help delay the need for heating. My personal favourite tip is to fill a hot water bottle when you make a brew and use it to keep your feet or back toasty.
