What are CPU holders and why do we need them?

What is a CPU?

A CPU is the brain of a computer, which is complemented with a keyboard, mouse and a screen to provide you with the computer that you rely on every day. CPU stands for ‘Central Processing Unit’ and, despite being critical to most people’s day jobs, they can be bulky, cumbersome and take up a lot of space on or below your desk. The thing is, a CPU needs air to get to it to keep it cool, so can’t be shut away in a cupboard, but having it on the floor beneath your desk can be inconvenient as it takes up valuable leg and chair space.

So why do we need a CPU holder?

A CPU holder is a bracket that attaches to the underside or inside side of the desk, enabling you to use otherwise wasted space to store your CPU. There are plenty of benefits to keeping your CPU in a CPU holder on the underside of the desk:

  • If your CPU is stored on a bracket on the inside of the desk, you free up more leg space so you can move your feet and legs beneath the desk without the restriction.
  • You reduce the likelihood of knocking over, kicking or otherwise damaging the CPU
  • By storing the CPU off the floor, you maximise airflow to the CPU, reducing the likelihood of overheating and the subsequent downtime that this could cause.
  • With the CPU stored safely and securely beneath the desk, you free up additional desk space for more comfortable working throughout the day.
  • This also means that the desk and floor space around the desk area is easier to keep clean and tidy.

Types of CPU holders

There are many different types of CPU holder. Here are just a few of the types of CPU holder that we have in our range at Box15 and how they differ from each other:

Suspended CPU bracket

These suspended CPU brackets attach the underside of the desk and act as a cradle for the CPU.

Mobile CPU holders

This mobile CPU holder is adjustable from 15.5cm to 21.5 cm wide to fit most CPU widths. The CPU rests in the unit which sits on the floor. The unit is on castors making it easy to move when needed for cleaning, or positioning.

Easyclick CPU holders

This Easyclick CPU holder attaches to the inside side of the desk and the height is adjusted to enable the easy placement of the CPU into the bracket and secure it.

Fully adjustable CPU holders

This fully adjustable CPU holder can be adjusted to accommodate different heights and different widths of CPU. With a weight capacity of 20kg, this CPU holder is both flexible and reliable.

For most types of CPU holder, we have a variety of options. To see our full range of CPU holders, search ‘CPU holders’ on our website Box15.com. Check out the CPU holder product pages to learn more about the discounts we offer for bulk purchases.
