Compression storage shelves – what they are and how to install them

Compression storage shelves are different to our standard shelving systems – they don’t need to be positioned against a wall for stability which means they are more versatile. Unlike our wall-mounted shelving system or even our floor-standing shelving system, our VL Compression Shelving Units are secured to the ceiling and the floor which means can be used to partition and separate out spaces.

The VL in VL in our Compression Storage Shelves System stands for ‘vertical line’ – a nod towards the stylishly crafted vertical posts that act as the central posts for the bookshelves. The system’s bifacial frame is created with a thin metal skeleton profile punctuated with stylish open shelves. The shelves are 31cm deep – deep enough to be useful and store books, files and stationery, but shallow enough to use for decorative purposes if you prefer.

The VL Compression Shelves can be used to separate working areas from more social areas, or daytime spaces from evening and nighttime spaces. They can even be used to create a barrier between individual workspaces, separating out teams or even individuals in a relaxed and stylish way.

Options for the VL Compression Shelving System

The system is modular so you can opt for different heights and bay widths. Different heights available include 238cm- 248cm, 268cm-278cm, or 288cm-298cm.

The different bay widths available include 600mm, 900mm, and 1200mm.

There are plenty of options when it comes to choosing a VL Compression shelving system that matches your office colour scheme and design. We have frames available as standard in black, bronze, iron or a titanium finish and shelves available in 11 different colourways. Shelf colour options include white, black and anthracite, but there are more traditional wood colours and finishes. We recognise that colour matching isn’t always easy, so we can send out samples so you can colour match effectively with any existing furniture you may already have in your office space. You can also choose to add shelf-mounted cabinets to match your wooden shelves.

You can even mix up the shelves and incorporate steel shelves and cabinets alongside wooden counterparts.

How to fit a VL Compression storage system

Fitting a VL Compression Storage system is straightforward.

  1. Identify where you want the vertical poles to be positioned, mark the holes on the ceiling and floor and then drill the ceiling holes.
  2. Insert rawl plugs inside the ceiling holes, ready to secure the fitting plate.
  3. Then attach the fitting plates with the self-tapping screws provided and secure them to the ceiling.
  4. Then position the metal horizontal bars that support the shelves and screw the bar in place using the hole provided.
  5. Place each shelf on top of the bar and screw into position with the three screws provided through the metal supporting bar.
