What types of desks are there?

Here at BOX15, we offer a wide variety of stylish desks in an array of widths and lengths; including a range of modular options. This modular aspect is becoming more popular as it allows for the size of your desk system to grow in line with your office numbers.

However, one key question that our customers are keen to know is; what types of desks are there?

Office desks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes; so it depends on the primary use of your office desk. As a result, we’ve put together a short guide to help you establish which desk you need:

Cantilever Office Desks

Cantilever desks are distinguishable by their cantilever structure; which is a beam supported only at one end, with the load bearing on the overhang. Notably, these are recognizable by the clear space underneath the horizontal beam, with no extra columns or bracing for support.

Generally, these are available as standard straight Cantilever office desks, or with the option of a return extension to create a corner desk / L-shaped desk with returns.

Beam & Bench Desking Systems

A bench desk refers to a single frame that is shared by multiple tops. In addition, these can be conjoined to create a back-to-back bench system, or to create a longer desk top run (with or without a gap for screens).

Bench desking systems are perfect for call center and multi personnel office environments where flexibility and adaptability is essential.

Conference Tables & Meeting Tables

Meeting room, boardroom and conference tables come in a wide range of shapes and sizes; catering for Rectangular, Square and Round, to Oval, Barrel and even asymmetrical tabletops. In contrast, they are generally more suited to thicker tops (e.g. 35-40mm). Modular options allow for extra-long table runs to be created.

Tilt Top Tables

Tilt top tables allow for tops to be folded down. Subsequently, allowing the table to be stowed neatly away when not in use. The system allows for multiple tables to fit together in a row; thus creating a large meeting room table / conference table. Similarly, they are also available in a range of widths and lengths, enabling them to be used individually as a mobile desk.

Sit-Stand Height Adjustable Desks

A sit stand desk (also known as a stand-up desk) is a height adjustable desk which can be adjusted to either a sitting or standing height, manually or electronically.

These desks have been designed primarily to avoid prolonged sitting time. They have also been linked to multiple health benefits, such as alleviating lower back pain and other conditions associated with extended periods of sitting.

Pull Out Desks

Pull out desks are perfect for areas with limited spacing. This is because they can be neatly folded away and are commonly hidden behind a drawer front. These innovative desks can be subtly hidden from sight, and then utilized to instantly provide additional desk top space.
